About FES Northwest
A Legacy of Excellence: Helping Patients Regain Mobility Since 2008
FES Northwest Ltd was founded in 2008 by Wendy Watson and Carol McFadden
Together they combined their extensive experience in neurological conditions and functional electrical stimulation (FES) to meet the growing need for a specialist service in the North West of England.
Wendy had already established a successful neurological physiotherapy practice in the region and recognised a significant gap in support for patients experiencing foot drop, a condition commonly associated with stroke, multiple sclerosis, and head injuries. Initially integrating FES into her physiotherapy services, she soon realized the increasing demand required a dedicated approach. This led her to partner with Carol McFadden, a specialist with many years of expertise in FES, to form FES Northwest Ltd.
Since its inception, FES Northwest has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality care using the latest advancements in technology. The company has helped many patients regain mobility they once thought impossible due to their neurological conditions.
Committed to innovation, FES Northwest continues to adopt and implement the latest breakthroughs in FES, ensuring patients across the North West receive the best possible treatment and support.
The service was taken over in 2024 when the founders reached retirement.
FES Northwest Ltd continues to thrive under the management of Director, Apurba Chakraborty; Business Manager, Emma Whitehead; Principal Clinician, Ashleigh Knowles; and Clinical Specialist, Fiona Cocker, who have aspirations to not only maintain the predecessors’ high standard of service, but also expand and grow the service.
