What is Foot Drop?

Foot drop is the term commonly used to describe an inability to lift the foot when taking a step. This can happen following a central nervous systems problem such as:

  •  Stroke
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury
  • Other neurological conditions.

Foot Drop can cause any of the following problems:

  •  Trips and Falls
  • Reduced walking endurance
  • Reduced confidence when walking
  • Decrease  in walking speed
  • Reduced social independence
  • Reduced quality of life
  • Increased effort and concentration when walking
  • Balance difficulties
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Reduce fatigue
